Series Evolution and Roots (2013-2016)

DNA was first identified in the 1860s by a Swiss chemist called Johann Friedrich Miescher.  In 1953, Cambridge University scientists Watson and Crick discovered the chemical structure of DNA, also known as the molecule of life; the first electron microscope picture of its double helix was taken in 2012.  Subsequent studies of DNA conclusively proved that humans are not only related to the great apes – we are one. The wall between human and animal has been breached and, as first boldly predicted by Charles Darwin in 1871, Africa was the place where the human lineage first branched off from apes.
